Salvatore Ferragamo SunglassesFor those who knew Salvatore Ferragamo, born at the tail end of the 19th century, he may have been one of the last people anybody thought would get into the sunglasses business. And yet today, Ferragamo sunglasses are considered among the most elegant pieces of accessory artwork.

Ferragamo was originally a shoemaker, designing unique, luxury footwear made by hand. He gained fame in the 1920’s after creating designs specifically for Hollywood productions. This spawned a chain of international stores. Today, Salvatore Ferragamo Italia – Ferragamo’s name brand, has over 450 stores in over 55 countries.

Ferragamo shoes, like many other famous designs, were pleasing to the eye but painful to the foot. Convinced that he could make a better shoe that satisfied the both style and comfort, Ferragamo went on to study anatomy at the University of Southern California.

Salvatore Ferragamo’s brand expanded (after Salvatore’s death in 1960) to eventually include handbags, leather goods, scarves and ties, watches, fragrances, and – of course – sunglasses.

Ferragamo sunglasses are very unique, and exclusivity is a major selling point as those lucky enough to own a pair are few. The exclusivity comes, in part, because of the price. A pair of economically” priced Ferragamo sunglasses come in at around $250, while $400 is a more common price point. If you want to know the price, you probably shouldn’t be shopping Ferragamo. But it’s this exclusivity that gives owners a feeling that they are wearing a custom-crafted piece of art specific to them.<br>

Interestingly, Salvatore Ferragamo Italia only makes sunglasses for women.
